Eventually the pressures equalize and the pressure gauge of the instrument then gives the pressure in the soil water. Enough gas pressure is applied to the chamber to bring the water in the soil to atmospheric pressure, when it is on the verge of exuding from the outlet. The gas pressure is then equal and opposite to the original pressure in the soil water. Pressure chamber for measuring the water potential of a leaf.

The leaf is cut from a plant and quickly placed in the chamber, with a small piece of it protruding through the pressure seal. As with the pressure plate Figureenough gas pressure is applied to the chamber to bring the xylem sap to the point of bleeding from the cut surface.

Because transpiration has stopped, the xylem sap is close to equilibrium with the cells of the leaf and the applied balancing pressure is equal and opposite to that of the original pressure in the equilibrated xylem sap.

Modern poets put a lot of water into their ink. Modern poets mix a lot of water with their ink. Nothing should be treasured more highly than the value of the day.

Nothing is more highly to be prized than the value of each day. Nothing is worth more than this day. Das Klassische nenne ich das Gesunde und das Romantische das Kranke.

They are indispensable for the workman; but you mustn't mistake the scaffolding for the building. It is as certain as it is marvelous that truth and error come from one source. Therefore one often may not injure error, because at the same time one injures truth. Attributed[ edit ] Smoking stupefies a man, and makes him incapable of thinking or writing. Such lazy Turks find mental solace in handling a pipe and gazing at the clouds of smoke that they puff into the air; it helps them to kill time.

Smoking induces drinking beer, for hot mouths need to be cooled down. Beer thickens the blood, and adds to the intoxication produced by the narcotic smoke. The nerves are dulled and the blood clotted. If they go on as they seem to be doing now, in two or three generations we shall see what these beer-swillers and smoke-puffers have made of Germany.

You will notice the effect on our literature—mindless, formless, and hopeless; and those very people will wonder how it has come about. And think of the cost of it all! Fully 25, thalers a year end in smoke all over Germany, and the sum may rise to forty, fifty, or sixty millions. The hungry are still unfed, and the naked unclad. What can become of all the money? Smoking, too, is gross rudeness and unsociability. Smokers poison the air far and wide and choke every decent man, unless he takes to smoking in self-defence.

Who can stay there without perishing? Heinrich Luden, Rueckblicke in mein Leben, Jena The ever-changing display of plant forms, which I have followed for so many years, awakens increasingly within me the notion: The plant forms which surround us were not all created at some given point in time and then locked into the given form, they have been given… a felicitous mobility and plasticity that allows them to grow and adapt themselves to many different conditions in many different places.

Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least. Wir sollten weniger sprechen und mehr zeichnen. People should talk less and draw more. Personally, I would like to renounce speech altogether and, like organic nature, communicate everything I have to say visually. As many languages you know, as many times you are a human being.

As quoted in Human Development: A Science of Growth by Justin Pikunas, p. Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them to become what they are capable of being. As quoted in My Country Vol. I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate.

It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized.

If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. Widely attributed to Goethe, but also claimed to be a distortion of a passage by Haim Ginott.

Talking is a necessity, listening is an art. What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals. Two questions I don't understand why you say that the proposed invese property would not be usable on properties, can you explain further?

I'd rather comment here. To answer your questions: Just wanted to add my thoughts here as well. So the main objections to using this on properties as I understand it are: Does that make sense to you? The Proposed Inverse property would not work for properties as you would only be able to use items as values not properties - I can see the problem here, it would mean that we would need the instructions for the inverse property to explain that it can only be used for items.

Obviously only an issue if the property actually gets accepted though. The query links on property talk pages can already show you items using the property which have the most statements i.

Ultimately it should be a curated list for each property. Overall I still feel like it's still a useful addition despite the few downsides. I just see it as another really useful way to investigate data quality, and see out good examples to follow when adding other data. Currently, the items that are used with this property are frequently violating our standards.

This sets a bad example as it makes it likely that people think they would be good examples when they aren't. The items seem to be picked by the criteria of how much statements a given item has quantity over quality. There is nothing about self-editing on Wikidata: Living peopleso I assume that it is ok, and even better if the statements are referenced.

Any thoughts about this? The problem is more if you create it yourself or if it was created by error. Wikidata does not yet. Lazypub talk I guess on the encyclopedia it makes more sense to have a COI policy to avoid whitewashing and POV, however here on Wikidata that is not really a problem.

If someone wants to add thousands of statements to their page, those are still factual. But it seems more like you are trying to start a discussion about if WD should have one, in which case - my opinion is: Structured Data is far different then the freeform writing of an encyclopedia.

I am ok with editing own entries. The concern I have is notability, particularly when creating a self-item.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - Wikiquote

I actually liked the line recently removed on the notability guideline if you don't already have an item, you probably aren't notable. Your concern is already included in the wording of Wikidata: In general on Wikidata it is allowed to edit your own data item. However, you should not create an item about yourself unless you are sure that it fulfills the notability criteria.

If you generally agree with the document, you can support this version here: There are a number of issues with the document as it currently stands, as discussed on its talk age, and that page's archives. Autobiography in draft condition.

It does not clearly state to my opinion what to do. Use common sense in order to avoid potential drama. One can leave notes on the talk page, and maybe ping editors who have edited the item earlier. I was not aware of the existance of that page. I have made some modifications according to what we are discussing here. Please do bring up any concerns about it so that we can discuss them.
