MOF-based device harvests water from air | Research | Chemistry World
Oct 5, New findings have resolved a long-standing debate over the structure of water molecules at the water surface. The research combines theoretical and experimental techniques to pinpoint, for the first time, the origin of water's unique surface properties in the interaction of water. Sep 13, Air is the element of the mind, and airy types know that everything begins with The other triplicities are water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces), fire Gemini is light and changeable and a witty observer of life's spectacle. Oct 28, A simple explanation of what light is, where it comes from, and how it appears to kink at the point where the water meets the air above it.
These juxtapositions heighten our awareness and intensify our experience of our surroundings.

The elements water and fire are obviously the heart of the sculpture installation. The reflective waters of the Providence, Woonasquatucket and Moshassuck Rivers unite the individual bonfires into a shimmering ribbon that winds through the park.
Both water and fire are seen as living entities that possess a will and a spirit of their own. Water and fire symbolize life, fertility, creativity and inspiration in cultures around the world.
At the same time, water and fire also represent loss, death, and destruction.
Water and fire are mutually destructive—water will extinguish a flame, just as fire will boil water away to nothing. The cold, dark sheen of the rivers temper the exuberance of the fires while the bright dancing flames enliven the quiet surface of the water.
The delicate and unlikely balance of these two opposing forces creates the magic that lies at the heart of WaterFire. The sense of sharing or intimacy that develops among persons who share a group experience. We see earth represented in the iron of the braziers and wood in the logs and kindling.
We smell the fragrance of the pine and cedar in the air that envelops downtown in an ancient incense. Some light will be reflected off the surface of the water, but much of the light will pass through the transparent water.

When a ray passes from air into glass the direction in which the light ray is travelling changes. The light ray appears to bend as it as it passes through the surface of the glass. When a light ray passes from air into water a similar thing occurs: This 'bending of a ray of light' when it passes from one substance into another substance is called refraction.
The bending of a ray of light also occurs when the ray comes out of glass or water and passes into air. What causes this bending? Glass and water are thicker and heavier than air.
They are said to be 'denser' than air. What happens is that light slows down when it passes from the less dense air into the denser glass or water. The law of reflection requires that two rays are at identical angles but on opposite sides of the normal which is an imaginary line dashed in Fig.
We show in Fig. The dashed line normal is perpendicular to the surface. All Things Equal All reflected light obeys the relationship that the angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection.

Just as images are reflected from the surface of a mirror, light reflected from a smooth water surface also produced a clear image. We call the reflection from a smooth, mirror-like surface specular as shown in Figure 2a. When the surface of water is wind-blown and irregular, the rays of light are reflected in many directions.
